About this Property

  • Sleeps 10
  • 5 Bedrooms
  • 3 Bathrooms
  • Private vacation home
  • Approximately 2400 square feet

Our home is on a secluded, uncrowded private island, directly on the ocean with a white sandy beach and clear ocean water. The clean water provides amazing fishing and surfing. We are ardent conservationists and have managed to preserve the natural vegetation around the home. We have tons of beach grass and sea oats. The birding around the home is astounding and we have fall visitors who come just to bird watch. Surf fishing is very good in front of the home because of a slew that has been there for at least 30 years.

The Beach House is a comfortable, older oceanfront home. The home was constructed in 1969 by Paul and CoCo Foster on Figure 8 Island close to Wilmington North Carolina. The design is a mix of Caribbean, Central American and historic Carolina style coastal homes. Our furnishings are eclectic with many 1950's pieces copied from the famed 1952 Herman Miller catalog while the Fosters were living in Central America. Google map it: 126 Beach Road S, Wilmington,

Our home has five bedrooms and two full bathrooms. There is a warm water outside shower which is the most trendy bathing area in the summer. The kitchen is completely equipped including a microwave and all the cookware a chef would want. We left the natural vegetation so there are plenty of sea oats and a growing maritime forest. The birds adore it!

The home is located on Figure Eight Island just north of Wilmington, North Carolina. It is a private island and a gated community, accessible only to land owners and their guests. There are no public facilities on the island. It has the only privately owned bridge over the Intercostal Waterway. We have clean and white sandy beaches with blue-green ocean water. Multiple loggerhead turtle nests hatch yearly. The beach is not busy since the public is not allowed on the island.

Our home is light and airy and very casual. This is not a luxury home, but a functional beach home. Sandy toes are not a problem! Smoking is allowed outside, but must be carefully controlled because of the high winds and fire hazards. We have had numerous homes burn down on the island due to cigarette butts left burning in the sand or on the porch.

Strategies for getting the perfect Wilmington rental home experience:

Sticking to your budget:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Booking in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Brunswick area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Brunswick area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

How to pick the perfect rental home:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Sandy Paws Cozy Beach House and direct ocean front on Figure Eight Island has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
  • Does your group require unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Advice for a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many concerns.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Upon check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
