Our top Oak Island vacation rental tips:

How to get the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Brunswick area area. To book the best vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • In the Brunswick area area, The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Brunswick area area travel guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Filter your search:

  • Start by having your group select the best dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Charming home near the Intracoastal Waterway & beach with firepit, deck, AC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
