Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:
Getting the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the most suitable rental home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Brunswick area area travel guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Brunswick area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning, selecting, and booking the rightvacation home:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Walkable beach & golf condo with two screened porches, central AC & washer\/dryer has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Contact the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
