Oak Island vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
When to visit Oak Island & When to reserve a Oak Island rental home:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Oak Island. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Brunswick area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Cozy Beachside Cottage 1 Block from the Beach, steps to the Oak Island pier. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If not, email the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
More tips for your visit:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
