Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Oak Island. To find the best value, try changing your family's Brunswick area vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Brunswick area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.

Planning, selecting, and booking a perfectrental:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Wonderful Dog Friendly Cottage in the Peaceful Quiet Section of Oak Island has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
  • If there's an individual Brunswick area attraction you long to visit, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
